Our Story
Thompson Capital Group is more than an investment firm — it is a family institution built over decades of principled leadership, disciplined execution, and multi-generational commitment to creating lasting value.
The Foundation
Thompson Capital Group carries forward a legacy rooted in the founding vision of Paul "Rod" Thompson, who built Thompson Consulting Group in 2004 into a respected government contracting and advisory firm. Through decades of principled leadership and disciplined execution, Rod demonstrated what it means to build something of enduring worth — an organization where relationships are earned, commitments are kept, and reputation is the most valuable asset.
"We don't chase deals. We build companies, honor commitments, and create value that endures across generations."
That culture of execution now lives in Thompson Capital Group, led by Jack Thompson alongside managing principals David Thompson, James Thompson, and Luke Thompson — a tightly governed family officer group with deep expertise spanning enterprise IT, Department of Defense contracting, and large-scale commercial construction.
This is not a firm assembled from resumes. It is a family with a proven track record across industries where execution matters — where contracts are earned, not awarded, and where operators answer for results with their own name.
What We Stand For
At Thompson Capital Group, our values are not a mission statement on a wall — they are the operating principles behind every capital decision, partnership, and commitment we make.
Every capital relationship we enter, every contract we execute, and every partnership we form is governed by a single standard: would we be proud to put the Thompson name on it? We do not cut corners, shade projections, or bend commitments for short-term gain.
Ideas are cheap. Execution is rare. Our track record across government contracting, construction, and enterprise technology is defined by delivering what we commit to — on time, on scope, and with the operational rigor that separates professional operators from opportunists.
We are not optimizing for a quarterly return or an exit multiple. As a family-governed firm, we think in decades. The companies and partnerships we build today are designed to carry the Thompson name and create value for the next generation of our family and our partners.
Our access to DoD contracts, institutional partnerships, and co-investment opportunities is not the result of a cold pitch deck. It is the product of years of earned trust — built interaction by interaction, delivery by delivery, across multiple industries and administrations.
We are not passive capital. When Thompson Capital Group invests in a company, we bring operational depth alongside our capital. Our principals have built and operated businesses — we understand that results come from people, process, and accountability, not from financial engineering.
The Thompson name is on the door. Every commitment made by this firm reflects directly on our family. That accountability structure — where every principal has skin in the game in the most personal possible sense — creates a standard of care that institutional firms simply cannot replicate.
How We Operate
Thompson Capital Group is structured as a family officer council — a deliberate governance model that ensures every major decision is reviewed by multiple principals with complementary expertise and aligned long-term incentives.
Jack, David, James, and Luke Thompson collectively govern capital decisions, portfolio oversight, and strategic direction. No single principal makes major decisions unilaterally — this structure ensures rigor and alignment in everything we do.
Collectively, the Thompson principals bring hands-on experience across enterprise IT systems, Department of Defense contracting, commercial construction, strategic advisory, and capital markets — enabling the firm to evaluate and operate across its four investment verticals with genuine expertise.
Every principal invests personal capital alongside partner capital. This alignment structure means our incentives are identical to those of our partners: long-term value creation, capital preservation, and disciplined risk management — not fee extraction or short-term performance theater.
Unlike fund structures with defined lifespans and exit mandates, TCG operates on an indefinite horizon. We hold assets for as long as they continue to create value for all stakeholders — there is no pressure to sell companies or liquidate positions to meet an arbitrary timeline.
